About the job
Do you want to shape the future of Radio Frequency Engineering education?
If so, you could be a great fit for NMITE.
Are you an established academic or senior industry expert in Electronics or Radio Frequency Engineering ready to shape a nationally significant programme?
NMITE is developing a new postgraduate programme in Radio Frequency Engineering designed to address acute UK skills shortages in communications, sensing, defence, aerospace and autonomous systems. We are seeking an academic leader to design, shape and deliver this programme — and to act as the institutional figurehead for Electronics and RF Engineering.
This is a rare opportunity to build something distinctive, industry-linked and pedagogically innovative from the ground up.
Who are we?
NMITE is an innovative UK Higher Education provider, founded to rethink engineering and technology education and make a positive impact regionally – educationally, economically, and socially. We celebrated our first graduates in 2025 and continue to build on our growing legacy.
Our programmes are accelerated, hands-on and challenge-led. We combine deep technical expertise with professional, ethical and systems-thinking capabilities. Industry co-creation is embedded in everything we do.
Radio Frequency Engineering is a strategically important capability underpinning modern communications, radar and sensing systems, spectrum management, defence technologies, and national infrastructure. NMITE is developing a postgraduate taught MSc in RF Engineering designed to produce technically excellent, industry-ready graduates with strong professional judgement and applied capability.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking a Professor or Associate Professor in Electronics / Radio Frequency Engineering to provide academic leadership in a strategically important and nationally scarce discipline.
This role will suit an individual who:
- Brings deep subject expertise in RF and/or Electronics Engineering.
- Has credibility within academia, industry, or both.
- Has experience leading programme design, validation and delivery at postgraduate level.
- Has familiarity with PSRB and accreditation requirements and the ability to align curriculum with professional and regulatory standards.
- Understands the application of RF engineering in real-world systems.
- Is motivated to contribute to a distinctive, challenge-based and industry-linked model of engineering education.
You will combine technical authority with collaborative leadership and the confidence to shape a new MSc programme from inception through validation, accreditation and delivery. You will be comfortable operating within academic governance structures and representing NMITE externally to industry, partners and professional bodies.

Our Values & Behaviours
NMITE aims to be a game changer. Its staff must be able to balance the need to create a well-run, self-critical institution where good governance and rigorous quality controls are in place, with the need to test (and push) the boundaries of existing practice to create new approaches to engineering education. The way we work together is crucial to this mission and our values and behaviours must reflect this.
Our values:
- Grit and determination. We will be determined in everything we do, demonstrating the staying power needed to see things through.
- Inclusive. We will respect every individual and every voice will be equally important. We will have a community of students learning with people from a variety of backgrounds and our staff team will be equally diverse.
- Creative and learning. We will test the boundaries of existing practice and find new ways of doing things. We will always seek to justify the “new” in our title. We will try new things with humility, accepting mistakes and learning from them. We will always seek to learn from experiences by sharing openly what went well and what went wrong.
- Honest. We will always be courteous and respectful but also honest and straightforward when dealing with each other. We will not hide from uncomfortable truths and staff will be provided with the information they seek to do their jobs and to be well informed about our progress.
- Curious. We will encourage scrutiny from each other and welcome questions from any colleagues – whoever they are and whatever their role. Communication will always be assumed to be a two-way process. Colleagues should always ask for information they feel they need that is not being provided and we will always listen to each other.
- Aligned. We will always work to advance the institution’s mission and its core aims, whatever our role. We will challenge work that does not align with our mission.
Our Benefits
NMITE offers a rewarding and dynamic environment with small-group teaching and a workload model that supports all of the activities above. Academic staff can access a personal development budget, developmental support from senior staff across NMITE, a promotion pathway and a sabbatical scheme. NMITE is a young organisation where your impact will be visible and your voice will be heard, and you will be an instrumental part of NMITE’s growth. Be part of it.
