Overview Of Role Transport for London (TfL) is looking for an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer to join our Systems Performance & Integration team to help shape the future of TfL’s assets and infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of projects and modes of transportation.
Supporting other EMC Engineers to deliver valuable engineering solutions to our clients and stakeholders, you will provide technical guidance, check & challenge designs against relevant TfL, British and International standards, engage with suppliers and stakeholders to manage EMC requirements, and support the mitigation and management of EMC risks. Working alongside our team of Engineers, you will help to create a culture of continuous improvement through the identification of best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation, and effective root cause analysis.
As a highly motivated and adaptable engineer, you will have experience of applying your EMC knowledge, skills, and experience across the project lifecycle: feasibility, concept design, detailed design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance. You will be degree qualified and hold domain knowledge that is relevant to TfL transportation modes. You will have the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation, present ideas succinctly to both engineers and non-engineering stakeholders; and represent TfL’s interests with external parties.

Key Accountabilities
- Ensures the safety, functionality or compliance of low to medium risk newly implemented or altered assets, engineering processes, procedures or systems
- Leads the development and implementation of low complexity engineering solutions within their stated discipline or functional specialism, through the application of defined engineering standards and governance
- Provides internal stakeholders with appropriate challenge and professional advice to ensure the development or delivery of high quality, tested engineering solutions
- Undertakes on-site risk-based monitoring and surveillance of works as required, resolving and or escalating risks and issues as appropriate
- Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation applicable to their discipline or functional specialism
- Evaluates, selects and applies appropriate solutions to low risk/value/complexity engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
- Makes technical recommendations for own discipline or functional specialism to customers or senior management to inform technical decision making
- Supports continuous improvement through the use of best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Proven experience working in EMC (essential).
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Physics or other related disciplines as a minimum (essential).
- Experience of producing EMC Assurance documentation such as Management/Control Plans, EMC Risk Analysis, EMC Technical Files, and undertaking EMC Design Reviews (essential).
- Good understanding of EMC and associated Legislative and Standards’ framework in the UK (essential).
- Some experience of applying modelling and simulation techniques for analysing EMC issues (desirable).
- Good understanding of EMC Testing procedures; experience of EMC Testing and use of test equipment (desirable).
- Good understanding of electrical/electronic design and system integration (desirable).
