OBR CTM S. A. Research Laboratories have been conducting accredited activities for almost 30 years. They include: the Electromagnetic Compatibility Laboratory, the Vibroacoustics, Impact Resistance and Magnetic Fields Laboratory and the newly established Communications and Command Systems Laboratory.

Research activities are accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation and the Minister of National Defense, meeting the requirements of norms and standards as well as the clients themselves. The area of activity includes testing of military equipment (OiB), marine equipment for ships and ships in accordance with the requirements of classification societies, including: PRS, DNV and commercial devices, according to standards harmonized with the directives of the European Parliament and applicable reference documents in order to enable device manufacturers to mark the product with the CE marking.

Participation in the “Polish Network of EMC Laboratories” initiative enabled the expansion of CTM’s research infrastructure and equipping it with modern measurement equipment. The laboratories have 10 modern stations for electromagnetic compatibility testing and a separate space for performing mechanical and environmental tests.

Exceptionally large anechoic chamber

As part of the expansion, the CTM research complex acquired a SAC 10 anechoic chamber used for measuring radiated and conducted emissions and for testing radiated immunity to electromagnetic fields. The chamber is equipped with a rotary table with a diameter of 5 m and a load capacity of 5 tons, which makes it possible to test large-sized devices. The chamber is also equipped with a water supply and drainage system and contains gas detectors such as ozone, CO, CO2, LPG, nitrogen oxides, etc., enabling tests to be carried out on devices emitting exhaust gases. A station has also been installed in the SAC 10 chamber, where you can also check the resistance of a specific solution to an electromagnetic pulse. The anechoic chamber has significantly expanded the scope of research that can be conducted by OBR CTM. For example, a ten-meter measurement distance was secured, which is the largest value of this type in northern Poland.

In addition to very extensive activities in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, OBR CTM S. A. Research Laboratories also carry out research in the field of environmental research and magnetic and electric fields. They are carried out using three stations: a climatic chamber and two stations for testing mechanical exposures – an impact machine and a sinusoidal vibration station.

The climatic chamber allows you to perform tests in the range from -70°C to 180°C and allows you to increase the relative humidity to 98%. The working space of the chamber is approximately 1 m³. The impact test stand enables the generation of a half-sinusoidal impact pulse with a value of up to 1500 m/s² with a maximum pulse duration of up to 30 ms. The maximum loading capacity of the station is 800 kg..

The sinusoidal vibration station performs tests in the frequency range from 5 Hz to 2 kHz with a maximum acceleration of up to 300 m/s². The maximum load is 300 kg.

The research activities of CTM Laboratories in the field of magnetic and electric fields include stationary research performed at appropriate positions in the laboratory. This type of research includes: measurement of the static magnetic field, measurement of the scattered field from machines and devices, and testing of the safe distance from the compass, among others. according to PN-EN 60945.

It should be emphasized that the CTM Laboratories also carry out field tests on Navy vessels. One of such tests is the measurement of the electrochemical potential distribution.

Support for designers

The laboratories also provide design testing services consisting in verifying the properties of devices already at the conceptual and model stage. Product designers have the opportunity to check design assumptions and make any corrections at an early stage of product development. The possibility of using the technical facilities of CTM Laboratories allows you to perform comprehensive tests with the opportunity to benefit from the experience and competences of qualified personnel and without the need to invest in advanced equipment and research stations.
