The role

To provide a key service in the day-to-day operation of the Residential properties in the Stoke bishop halls of residence by undertaking general and minor repairs and decorations, maintaining security and supporting good relations with students, residents and guests.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for carrying out day-to-day reactive and preventative maintenance, with particular commitment to reactive maintenance to ensure that agreed service level agreements are achieved and maintained. This will include routine or cyclical programmed work and any emergency or urgent jobs that may crop up at any time.

Maintaining close contact with the University’s Estates Department for professional advice, support and supplies and assisting other trades personnel such as Electricians, Plumbers, Fitters and Carpenter/Joiners with routine and emergency work or when responding to work requests involving breakdowns, installations and testing.

You should apply if

  • You will be expected to have basic DIY and general maintenance skills.
  • You will be required to gain competence in Portable Appliance Testing, if this has not already been acquired. The post holder must be able to work on his or her own initiative and to prioritise and evaluate tasks.
  • A basic knowledge of the construction industry, with an understanding of electrical, gas and plumbing trades and would be an advantage as the need to be aware of the dangers involved in carrying out work immediately adjacent to electrical, gas and plumbing installations is essential
