The Role:

Saab is expanding in the UK and we are now seeking a talented and highly motivated RF Inspection & Test Technician to support our radar and sensors activities at our Fareham office.

Much of our current work is centred on the G1X radar, which is the newest radar in Saab’s portfolio – a software defined radar with a regular capability update cycle post-delivery, as well as an established production line. As an Inspection & Test Technician you will work in the Production department as part of the Test & Inspection team. Duties will be (but not limited to) inspecting produced items and units and testing units and the G1X Radar. Whilst the role is based in Fareham there may be opportunities for trips to Sweden for training and knowledge transfer.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support Inspection & Test Team Leader by being proactive to achieve production goals
  • Ensure any soldering & electrical looming is carried out to a high standard in line with company standards & procedures. Test functionality of produced units & sub-assemblies
  • Help & support others with training when possible, by passing on knowledge and skills
  • Understand & interpret electrical drawings.
  • Follow documented processes & record results
  • Carry out any other duties as detailed by the team leader or Production Supervisor. Maintain personal ability in, & appropriate use of, all relevant IT (Information & Technology) & other systems required to adequately perform the role
  • Act ethically, with integrity and in the best interest of the business at all times
  • Maintain a professional & supportive relationship with team members & other departments in order to deliver business & delivery objectives
  • Test radar systems, including conducting thorough inspections & performance evaluations to ensure they meet required specifications
  • Troubleshoot radar systems by identifying & resolving technical issues, performing diagnostic tests, & implementing corrective actions
  • Liaise with Swedish colleagues to collaborate on projects, share knowledge, and ensure effective communication and coordination across teams

Required Skills:

  • Be familiar with use of standard test & measurement equipment used in either a communications, radar or electronic warfare systems environment

This site-based role will undertake EMC testing, specification, design and development work on various Air / Land and Sea projects at system and component level.

EMC testing forms a major part of the role, both in house and at external EMC test houses. The successful applicant will also be key in supporting the Basildon EMC facility UKAS audit schedule and accreditation. Other duties include EMC test house and equipment maintenance duties.

About You Experience of UKAS audits and looking after the day to day running and capability enhancement and maintenance of an EMC test facility is essential.

  • System level EMC design, development, and solution provision.
  • EMC Component selection.

Required Qualifications For Consideration

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s in related curriculum such as Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (specialization in RF) with more than 12+ years of work experience.
  • Design experience utilizing electromagnetic design software such as CST Studio Suite, HFSS, Quick wave or GRASP.
  • Experience in setting up and carrying out S-parameter tests on various microwave components using Network Analyzers and creating test fixtures to support high volume production.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing processes and technologies in order to support factory and part evaluations.
  • Proactive team player within the Department; Enthusiastic, Self-motivated, Creative and able to work independently.

We are currently looking for a Senior RF Engineer to join our Engineering team based onsite at our UK Headquarters in Cumbernauld.

What You Will Do

As a Senior RF Design Engineer, you’ll be the technical cornerstone of our RF product development. Your designs will not only meet exacting performance standards but also push the boundaries of what’s possible in high-frequency systems. You’ll guide projects from concept to production, ensuring that every circuit, simulation, and test delivers excellence.

  • Lead the design and development of advanced RF circuits, subsystems, and modules for applications ranging from wireless communications to radar.
  • Perform detailed simulations using ADS, HFSS, and SPICE to optimize performance, minimize losses, and ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Translate designs into manufacturable layouts using Altium Designer, collaborating closely with PCB layout engineers to meet RF performance goals.
  • Conduct rigorous bench testing, validation, and troubleshooting of prototypes, using state-of-the-art RF test equipment.
  • Work cross-functionally with mechanical, digital, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of RF designs into complete systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers, sharing best practices.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in RF design, simulation, and testing.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Keysight ADS, Ansys HFSS and SIwave simulation tools.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-performance RF designs from concept through production.
  • Deep understanding of RF principles, including impedance matching, filter design, and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Strong working knowledge of Altium Designer for PCB layout and RF board design.
  • Experience of AMD RFSoC or Altera FPGA devices and tools.
  • Mil-Spec design practices and compliance (VPX, VNX+ etc)
  • Detailed understanding of latest ADC, DAC and clock circuitry from leading suppliers such as TI and ADI

Job Description Microchip, a forward-thinking semiconductor company at the forefront of GaN MMIC innovation, is seeking a Senior RF Device Modelling and Characterisation Engineer with the creativity, knowledge, and skills to support and drive the development and testing of our industry-leading RF Power Amplifiers. This position plays a pivotal role in advancing products for applications in Communications, Radar, Satellite, and Instrumentation markets.

This role is based out of our Belfast, UK offices and reporting to the Senior Technical Staff Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • The core of modelling is high quality measurement data, the engineer must be proficient in performing On wafer characterisation of GaN devices, Pulsed DC-IVs, S-parameters up to 67GHz using a Vector Network Analyser.
  • Perform On-wafer Active Load-Pull measurements to validate large-signal performance.
  • Develop and implement advanced de-embedding and parasitic extraction techniques.
  • Develop and maintain GaN HEMT compact device models for use in advanced GaN MMIC design, supporting both Keysight ADS and Cadence AWR Microwave Office EDA platforms.
  • Develop and/or verify passive models in conjunction with Foundry available PDK models, performing 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic simulation.
  • Develop advanced automated processes, including use of AI, for characterisation, extraction and modelling techniques for efficient delivery of GaN device models and other new available processes.
  • Prepare detailed verification reports on GaN HEMT and passive models.
  • Work closely with MMIC design team in assessing new fabrication processes and troubleshooting discrepancies between simulated and measured results.
  • Lead by example to uphold a culture of ethics, accountability, and technical excellence.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, RF, or related field) with 5+ years’ experience in RF/microwave testing and applications engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of RF device modelling and on-wafer characterisation.
  • Familiarity with RF EDA tools such as Keysight ADS and Cadence AWR Microwave Office, and/or other 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic simulation, such as HFSS.
  • Proficient in operating RF semiconductor test equipment: Probe Stations, Pulsed DC-IV, VNA, etc.
  • Strong software skills for process automation using tools such as Python, MATLAB, or C.
