The Opportunity The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) department is like no other within MBDA. It is split between a test team working hands on in our state-of-the-art EMC Facility to simulate environments and also a highly skilled project consultancy team that is embedded across all projects within MBDA to ensure good EMC practice & design.

This role is in our EMC Test Team, who support MBDA programmes through their product development cycle from Risk Reduction test activities to full Qualification Testing. The majority of the work will be performing various EMC test activities in line with a Test Plan produced by the EMC Project Team as well as the production of the Test Report. The EMC Test Team perform formal tests in the products intended electromagnetic environment at the EMC Laboratories in Bristol.

Introduction We are looking for a Senior RF Electronics Engineer to join our world class multidisciplinary team to help solve complex technical challenges across a broad range of industries.

The role At Cambridge Consultants we help our clients develop breakthrough technology across a broad range of industries including Energy and Industrial, Defence and Security, Consumer, Telecoms, Healthcare and Biotechnology, among various others.

• Simulation tools and modelling such as ADS and/or CST
• Testing procedures, protocols, and facilities like anechoic chambers and screening rooms
• Strong experience in at least two of the following technologies:
  • TETRA – 100-900 MHz
  • GSM – 800/900/1800 MHz
  • LTE/4G/5G – 700-2700 MHz
  • GNSS – 1.6-2 GHz
  • WiFi – 2.4-6GHz
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with the team and collaborate with other departments.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectively assign both internal and external resources.
• Excellent hands-on experience handling sensitive PCBs and preforming component level activities such as rework and/or modifications.

Nice to have

• Experience with professional mobile radio (PMR) systems.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards and compliance in the telecommunications industry.
• Knowledge of advanced RF technologies, such as beamforming or MIMO.
• Proficiency in additional programming languages relevant to RF design and testing.

Stevenage At MBDA, we are continuing to grow our Data Link Systems organisation, providing a world leading missile data link capability. We have a number of exciting opportunities within Data Link Systems, working across the product lifecycle from research, the early concept phase, through full product design to production. These roles require a range of knowledge and experience from graduate to experienced engineers.

Salary: up to £55,000 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: can vary between 2 to 5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity: As part of our Data Link Systems team, you will work on the design and implementation of the cutting edge RF communication systems that are key to the success of our weapons systems. Our team has a presence at both our Bristol and Stevenage sites. We collaborate broadly across MBDA with multiple disciplines to create high performance weapons systems for our Armed Forces. We are currently recruiting for the following roles:

• RF Systems Technical Leads
• RF Systems Engineers
• Algorithm / Modelling Engineers
• Signal Processing Engineers

What we’re looking for from you: We are interested in talking to RF systems engineers; Systems Engineering team leaders; experienced Systems Engineers with an interest in building their RF communications knowledge; Engineers from the RF domain with an interest in building their Systems Engineering skills; Engineers with modelling experience; Engineers with signal processing experience.

We are looking for some of the following skills:

• RF / Microwave systems knowledge
• Requirements management and systems design
• Managing external suppliers with procurement team support
• Technical leadership of junior engineers
• Experience participating in, or leading design reviews across the product lifecycle
• Experience of coordinating the transition of development hardware into production, including environmental testing, qualification testing and design certification
• System level functionality proving, Software / Firmware integration and proving
• Familiarity with antenna systems
• System level RF modelling
• Familiarity with real-time digital signal processing for high data bandwidth systems
• Understanding of waveform design and implementation
• Systems modelling and Autocode generation experience
• Experience research based on technical publications
• Good communication skills with the ability to produce high quality written reports and presentations to internal and external customers
