{"id":2204,"date":"2026-04-08T08:00:33","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T08:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/theemcnews.co.uk\/?post_type=job_listing&#038;p=2204"},"modified":"2026-04-08T08:00:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T08:00:34","slug":"principal-rf-engineer-6","status":"publish","type":"job_listing","link":"https:\/\/theemcnews.co.uk\/index.php\/job\/principal-rf-engineer-6\/","title":{"rendered":"Principal RF Engineer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"a366e002 _4d8b04d5 _16918cf1 _4dd3ff97 _65c0e6b1 _88f66071 _92c671ea\">\n<h2 class=\"c8518d59 f395f39f d3320386 _5d9004b6 _2f4a5644 _4e1212a4 _360a24cc cc1e0ca4 _4d39f135 ec36e444 _673b7fe7\">About the job<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"c8518d59 _3e4bb8bc _5d9004b6 _2f4a5644 _9f0f7e93 _1f0b9e8e cc1e0ca4 _4d39f135 ec36e444 _673b7fe7 a095def4\"><span class=\"c32298a2 _764471c9\" tabindex=\"-1\" data-testid=\"expandable-text-box\"><strong>Job Description <\/strong>We are excited to be recruiting for an experienced Engineer with microwave engineering knowledge, familiar with working on complex electronic (ideally RF-based) sensor systems.<\/p>\n<p>The role can be based in either Southampton or Bristol and will focus on the electronics design of the RF and control subsystems; to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators.<\/p>\n<p>You will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials and product delivery.<\/p>\n<p>You will be part of the Leonardo Airborne Communications product development group within the Integrated Sensing &amp; Protection line of business; interacting with partner organisations \/ sub-contractors and potential customers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your Impact <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"_0b52f099 b6ad282a\">\n<li>You will be responsible for delivery of work packages focused on analogue and RF electronics, covering the inter vehicle data link design, system test and integration.<\/li>\n<li>Modelling of proposed architectures to determine the optimal solution.<\/li>\n<li>Simulation of RF design.<\/li>\n<li>Documentation of design including configuration management within Teamcenter.<\/li>\n<li>Support laboratory hardware demonstrator development and test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c8518d59 _3e4bb8bc _5d9004b6 _2f4a5644 _9f0f7e93 _1f0b9e8e cc1e0ca4 _4d39f135 ec36e444 _673b7fe7 a095def4\"><span class=\"c32298a2 _764471c9\" tabindex=\"-1\" data-testid=\"expandable-text-box\"><strong>What We Are Looking For <\/strong>These are some of the key things we are looking for, although it\u2019s not necessary to have experience in everything<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"_0b52f099 b6ad282a\">\n<li>Practical hands on experience of RF design of circuitry, ideally between DC and 30 GHz, but if you don\u2019t have experience over this whole range then we\u2019d still be interested to hear from you.<\/li>\n<li>Experience of working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.<\/li>\n<li>Hands on experience of using RF test and measurement equipment to develop and debug RF circuitry.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to use RF and system modelling and simulation tools.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to produce concise technical reports detailing design solutions and implementation.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to understand and follow the business practices, such as design reviews, which come with working in a high technology defence environment.<\/li>\n<li>Degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline (Electronics Engineering preferred).<\/li>\n<li>As part of an electromechanical project, be willing to work closely with the mechanical team members to create a solution which addresses all design requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c8518d59 _3e4bb8bc _5d9004b6 _2f4a5644 _9f0f7e93 _1f0b9e8e cc1e0ca4 _4d39f135 ec36e444 _673b7fe7 a095def4\"><span class=\"c32298a2 _764471c9\" tabindex=\"-1\" data-testid=\"expandable-text-box\"><strong>It would be nice if you had <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"_0b52f099 b6ad282a\">\n<li>Knowledge \/ experience of digital or mixed signal design.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in system level and sub-system integration and debug.<\/li>\n<li>Experience of working in the defence electronics sector.<\/li>\n<li>Chartered Engineer status, or a member of a professional engineering institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c8518d59 _3e4bb8bc _5d9004b6 _2f4a5644 _9f0f7e93 _1f0b9e8e cc1e0ca4 _4d39f135 ec36e444 _673b7fe7 a095def4\"><span class=\"c32298a2 _764471c9\" tabindex=\"-1\" data-testid=\"expandable-text-box\"><strong>Security Clearance <\/strong>This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government\u2019s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
