As a Microwave Engineer or Senior Microwave Engineer, you\u2019ll help develop and deliver the microwave subsystems that enable these platforms to detect, respond and survive. Based primarily at our <b>Luton <\/b>site, this role offers hybrid working, with on\u2011site time flexing to meet programme and test requirements.<\/p>\n<p><b>What you\u2019ll do<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>What you will do as a Microwave Engineer \/ Senior Microwave Engineer working on EW programmes:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop <b>microwave and RF circuits<\/b> operating to and beyond <b>20<\/b><b>\u202fGHz<\/b>, supporting advanced EW self\u2011protection systems.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the development of <b>complex RF subsystems<\/b>, from early prototyping through detailed design, integration and test.<\/li>\n<li>Perform microwave simulation, modelling and optimisation using <b>industry\u2011standard EM and circuit tools<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Perform hands\u2011on<b> RF test, measurement and debug<\/b> using world\u2011class laboratory facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Propose changes \/ updates as applicable.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to and be supported by an Integrated Project Team.<\/li>\n<li>Engage in <b>design reviews and technical discussions<\/b> with internal stakeholders, partners and customers.<\/li>\n<li>In performing the above, solve technically challenging problems across the RF chain, balancing performance, power, reliability and manufacturability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>What you\u2019ll bring<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This role is aimed at engineers with <b>microwave or RF expertise<\/b> who are comfortable operating with some technical autonomy.<\/p>\n<p><b>Essential experience:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proven experience working with <b>RF \/ microwave circuitry <\/b>in electronic systems.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of <b>microwave theory<\/b>, high\u2011frequency effects and practical implementation including layout.<\/li>\n<li>Experience using one or more of:\n<ul>\n<li>Keysight ADS<\/li>\n<li>Microwave Office<\/li>\n<li>CST Microwave Studio<\/li>\n<li>Ansys HFSS<\/li>\n<li>Siemens EDA \/ Mentor tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Hands\u2011on experience with <b>RF test equipment<\/b>, such as network analysers, spectrum analysers and RF sources.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to <b>debug failing hardware or test setups<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Practical experience <b>analysing results<\/b> and reporting against <b>design requirements.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Experience interfacing with <b>customers, suppliers or internal stakeholders<\/b> on technical matters.<\/li>\n<li><b>Teamworking: <\/b>effective <b>communication<\/b>, undertaking activities in pursuit of the team\u2019s goals and reporting on progress of these.<\/li>\n<li>Willingness to support<b> and mentor less\u2011experienced early careers engineers<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Valuable (but not essential):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience working within a <b>structured electronic design lifecycle<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to <b>reporting<\/b> on <b>cost and schedule<\/b> as well as technical progress.<\/li>\n<li>Experience within the <b>defence or aerospace sector<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Background in regulated or high\u2011reliability industries.<\/li>\n<li>HNC\/HND or degree\u2011level knowledge in Electronic Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics or similar \u2014 or equivalent practical experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Experience in one or more of the following is advantageous:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>RF and microwave layout techniques<\/li>\n<li>RF synthesisers (DDS or PLL\u2011based)<\/li>\n<li>Mixers<\/li>\n<li>Frequency conversion<\/li>\n<li>Passive microwave structures (e.g. filters)<\/li>\n<li>High\u2011power amplifiers or switches<\/li>\n<li>Low phase\u2011noise design and measurement<\/li>\n<li>RF chain analysis and budgeting<\/li>\n<li>RF PCB design<\/li>\n<li>MMICs<\/li>\n<li>Antennas<\/li>\n<li>High speed digital circuitry<\/li>\n<li>Circuits operating across <b>multi\u2011octave bandwidths<\/b><\/li>\n<li>Model\u2011driven engineering (MATLAB \/ Simulink)<\/li>\n<li>Test automation (e.g. LabVIEW)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>How this role grows with you<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This role rewards <b>technical depth, judgement and delivery<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senior engineers operate with significant autonomy, owning complex microwave designs and solving demanding RF problems within EW systems.<\/li>\n<li>As influence and experience grow, progression to <b>Principal Microwave Engineer<\/b> brings broader technical authority \u2014 shaping subsystem architectures, guiding design standards and mentoring others.\n<ul>\n<li>Principal engineers will play a visible role in <b>technical strategy<\/b>, design governance and cross\u2011programme problem solving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Progression is driven by <b>technical credibility, product\u2011level understanding and trust earned through delivery<\/b>, rather than formal hierarchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Security Clearance<\/b><\/p>\n<p>This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government\u2019s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
