Quality Certification Directorate (STQC) Directorate \u2013 Electronics Regional Test Laboratory (North) [ERTL (North)], under the Ministry of Electronics &amp; Information Technology (MeitY).\u00a0<strong>This will enable Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing of drones, thus strengthening India\u2019s drone testing and certification framework.<\/strong><\/p><p>The collaboration addresses a\u00a0<strong>critical regulatory requirement under the\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.civilaviation.gov.in\/ministry-documents\/rules\/drones-rules-2021-dated-25-august-2021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Drone Rules, 2021<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and the Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems<strong>\u00a0(<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/static.pib.gov.in\/writereaddata\/specificdocs\/documents\/2022\/jan\/doc202212810701.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>CSUAS<\/strong><\/a><strong>), 2022<\/strong>, and will significantly\u00a0<strong>enhance India\u2019s capability to certify<\/strong>\u00a0safe, reliable, and globally compliant Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS).<\/p><p><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 2nd February 2026 in the presence of Smt. Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs; Dr. Alok Kumar Srivastava, Director General, National Test House; Shri Vivek Kashyap, Scientist \u2018G\u2019, STQC Directorate; and Shri Pradeep Gunjyal, Scientist \u2018F\u2019 and Director, ERTL (North).<\/span><\/p><p>Under the proposed MoU,\u00a0<strong>EMI\/EMC and immunity testing of drones and their subsystems will be carried out<\/strong>\u00a0at ERTL (North) in accordance with applicable IEC 61000 \/ IS 14700 standards, while NTH will conduct the rest of the tests at its own premises<strong>.\u00a0<\/strong>The test reports generated through this collaboration will be seamlessly integrated into the\u00a0<strong>Type Certification process<\/strong>, providing drone manufacturers\u2014particularly\u00a0<strong>startups and MSMEs<\/strong>\u2014with a\u00a0<strong>transparent, seamless, credible, and Government-backed certification pathway<\/strong>.<\/p><p>This collaborative approach avoids duplication of high-cost infrastructure, enables optimal utilization of existing national facilities, and significantly\u00a0<strong>strengthens India\u2019s regulatory framework<\/strong>\u00a0for drone safety and reliability. It also ensures that drones certified through NTH meet\u00a0<strong>global benchmarks\u00a0<\/strong>such as IEC\/ISO, MIL-STD, ASTM, and RTCA, enhancing international acceptance of Indian-certified drones.<\/p><p>By making world-class drone testing and certification\u00a0<strong>accessible and affordable<\/strong>, at substantially lower cost than private facilities, the initiative will accelerate innovation across sectors such as\u00a0<strong>agriculture, logistics, healthcare, disaster management, infrastructure monitoring, and smart cities<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The proposed collaboration between\u00a0<strong>NTH and STQC\u2013ERTL (North)<\/strong>\u00a0marks an important milestone in expanding NTH\u2019s drone certification capabilities and building a\u00a0<strong>robust, indigenous, and future-ready drone certification ecosystem for the nation<\/strong>.<\/p><p><strong>National Test House (NTH)<\/strong>\u00a0is approved<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>by DGCA and QCI as a\u00a0<strong>Certification Body (CB) \/ Authorized Testing Entity (ATE)<\/strong>\u00a0under the Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems (CSUAS) and plays a critical role in ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance for emerging technologies, including drones.<\/p><p>NTH is a premier scientific and testing institution of the Government of India, established in 1912, functioning under the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food &amp; Public Distribution.
