We are looking for energetic and driven Principal EMC Specialist to join our rapidly systems team within our Electronics and Embedded Systems Capability. These role represents a fantastic and rare opportunity to play a leading role in the design and development on a range of client defence marine product. The project is in the early phases of the lifecycle and you will be supporting from the project from the concept design phase though to delivery and installation testing.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer/EMC Specialist, with particular specialism in complex electromagnetic environments of RADAR systems and integration of RADAR onto a maritime platform.

  • The Principal Electrical Engineer/EMC Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all systems (including power, digital processing, communications, mechanical and electrical (M&E) assets) are designed, installed and tested to meet the stringent EMC requirements of an operational maritme defence platform. Your expertise will be vital in preventing electromagnetic interference (EMI) between safety-critical systems, ensuring once itegrated the system operates safely and reliably.
  • Ensuring projects are completed to meet all client’s requirements and applicable standards and to an agreed budget and programme.
  • Act as the technical lead for all EMC matters
  • Develop, maintain and manage EMC Management Plans
  • Proactively identify and manage complex EMC interfaces between systems.
  • Lead and contribute to EMC-related hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessments. Ensure all EMC risks are captured in the project Hazard Log and managed to an ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) level.
  • Investigate and lead the resolution of any EMC issues, failures or non-conformances identified during construction, testing, or commissioning.
  • Liaise directly with design and build team, system suppliers, internal and external bodies to ensure a unified and compliant approach to EMC.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in EMC matters with a strong focus on RADAR.
  • Extensive, proven experience as an EMC engineer or specialist within a complex, large projects.

  • Experience of working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.

Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled Senior RF Test Engineer to join our growing development team in Cambridge, UK.

You will lead RF measurement, characterization, and validation of cutting-edge RF products, providing critical insight to design and systems teams to ensure strong correlation between simulation and hardware performance.

You will be responsible for defining and improving RF test methodologies, developing robust measurement infrastructure, and driving best practices across RF characterisation activities. You will be comfortable independently solve complex measurement challenges, guide test strategy, and contribute directly to delivering high-performance RF modules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead RF characterisation and validation activities, conducting detailed measurements to evaluate and optimize product performance
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and repeatable RF test setups for the characterization of RF modules and systems
  • Perform and analyse 3GPP-aligned RF measurements (LTE and/or NR) to assess transmitter and receiver performance
  • Provide measurement-driven feedback to RF design and systems teams to ensure strong correlation between simulation, design expectations, and hardware performance
  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts to improve measurement efficiency, repeatability, and data integrity
  • Define and uphold RF measurement methodologies, lab best practices, and documentation standards
  • Troubleshoot complex RF measurement setups and hardware issues, supporting development and design reviews with measurement insights
  • Maintain the RF laboratory environment, including test infrastructure, equipment calibration, and measurement best practices

Education & experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field
  • Strong hands-on experience in RF testing, characterization, and validation of RF systems or modules
  • Practical experience with 3GPP-based measurements for cellular systems (LTE and/or NR)
  • Solid understanding of RF fundamentals including S-parameters, impedance matching, gain, noise figure, and linearity
  • Proficiency with RF lab equipment (e.g., VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators) and developing repeatable automated test setups (Python/MATLAB or similar)
  • Ability to interpret RF schematics, debug hardware, and analyse RF system trade-offs, with practical lab experience
  • Experience maintaining RF lab environments, including equipment calibration, test infrastructure, and measurement best practices
  • Experience leading measurement activities or mentoring engineers is desirable

About the role

We are seeking an experienced RF Planning Engineer to design and optimise in-building wireless coverage systems for commercial, enterprise, and public-venue environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, modelling, and design of indoor cellular networks, including Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) and small-cell / digital indoor systems, ensuring high-quality coverage and capacity for modern mobile networks.

The role requires strong expertise with professional RF planning tools such as Ranplan or iBwave, along with a solid understanding of indoor propagation, multi-band cellular technologies, and real-world deployment constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design in-building wireless coverage systems for LTE and 5G networks, including DAS, small-cell, and digital indoor radio solutions.
  • Develop detailed RF designs using tools such as Ranplan, iBwave, or similar indoor propagation modelling platforms.
  • Produce coverage predictions, capacity analysis, and interference studies for indoor environments.
  • Perform link budget calculations and determine optimal node placement for radios, antennas, or small cells.
  • Analyse building floorplans and construction materials to model indoor propagation characteristics accurately.
  • Design systems supporting multiple frequency bands and technologies (e.g., 700/800/1800/2100/2600/3500 MHz).
  • Produce detailed RF design documentation, including node layouts, cable routing guidance, and system specifications.
  • Collaborate with site acquisition, deployment, and field engineering teams to ensure designs are implementable.
  • Support post-deployment validation, including walk testing, KPI analysis, and optimisation.
  • Ensure compliance with operator design standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Provide technical support during pre-sales, design reviews, and project delivery phases.

Essential

  • Proven experience in RF planning and design for indoor cellular systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Ranplan, iBwave, or equivalent indoor RF planning tools.
  • Strong understanding of RF propagation in indoor environments.
  • Experience designing DAS, small-cell, or digital indoor radio systems.
  • Knowledge of LTE and 5G NR radio technologies, including MIMO, carrier aggregation, and multi-band deployments.
  • Ability to perform link budgets, coverage analysis, and capacity planning.
  • Experience interpreting architectural floorplans and building layouts.
