Role Overview As we move from core technology development toward customer qualification and productisation, system-level architectural clarity has become critical. We are therefore expanding the CTO team with a RF Systems Architect who will play a central role in aligning RF design, algorithms, software, and test into a coherent, validated system architecture.

Requirements As an RF Alignment Technician, you will be responsible for the precise tuning, alignment, calibration, and testing of RF, microwave and/or mmWave circuits, modules and subsystems, ensuring each unit meets performance specifications before release to production or delivery.   • Conduct RF system testing: verify output power, frequency response, gain, noise, stability, spurious emissions, return loss, and other relevant RF parameters. Ensure actual performance meets expected design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues arising during alignment or testing, including component-level or board-level failures, spurious behaviour, drift, stability or degradation.
  • Develop, document and refine alignment, calibration and test procedures / strategies. Recommend improvements to existing test and alignment processes, fixtures, and tooling to improve throughput, quality and consistency.
  • Assist in new product introduction (NPI) and help transition from design/prototype phase to production, taking part in handover, test bench setup, qualification, and validation.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, electronic, design and production engineers, project managers to resolve technical challenges and ensure manufacturability and testability.
  • Provide technical support to production and maintenance teams, including training, diagnostics and repair of test equipment and test benches when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, alignment procedures, calibration logs, deviations, rework and corrective actions.

Job Description We are excited to be recruiting for an experience Engineer with microwave engineering knowledge, familiar with working on complex electronic (ideally RF-based) sensor systems.

The role can be based in either Southampton or Bristol and will focus on the electronics design of the RF and control subsystems; to be implemented on laboratory and aircraft concept demonstrators.

You will provide technical support throughout the product lifecycle including design implementation, integration and test, system trials and product delivery.

You will be part of the Leonardo Airborne Communications product development group within the Integrated Sensing & Protection line of business; interacting with partner organisations / sub-contractors and potential customers.

Your Impact

  • You will be responsible for delivery of work packages focused on analogue and RF electronics, covering the inter vehicle data link design, system test and integration.
  • Modelling of proposed architectures to determine the optimal solution.

  • Documentation of design including configuration management within Teamcenter.
  • Support laboratory hardware demonstrator development and test.

What We Are Looking For These are some of the key things we are looking for, although it’s not necessary to have experience in everything

  • Practical hands on experience of RF design of circuitry, ideally between DC and 30 GHz, but if you don’t have experience over this whole range then we’d still be interested to hear from you.
  • Experience of working with PCB layout personnel in an advisory capacity.
  • Hands on experience of using RF test and measurement equipment to develop and debug RF circuitry.
  • Ability to use RF and system modelling and simulation tools.
  • Ability to produce concise technical reports detailing design solutions and implementation.
  • Ability to understand and follow the business practices, such as design reviews, which come with working in a high technology defence environment.
  • Degree in relevant engineering or related scientific discipline (Electronics Engineering preferred).
  • As part of an electromechanical project, be willing to work closely with the mechanical team members to create a solution which addresses all design requirements.

  • Knowledge / experience of digital or mixed signal design.

Palma Ceia SemiDesign is seeking senior analog and RF IC design engineers to join their team of experienced radio design engineers in Cambridge, UK. Successful candidates will show a strong understanding of circuit design principles as well as an ability to work autonomously. A premium will be placed on having a strong portfolio of high-performing radio circuit designs and a desire to continually learn and excel.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the design of analog and RF circuit components within a SoC environment.
    • Specification and architecture definition
    • Detailed circuit design, verification and physical implementation
    • Behavioral modeling of circuit functionality
    • Integration of circuit design into IC
    • Characterization, debug final test and productization.
  • Peer review of colleagues’ work
  • Collaboration with other IC design disciplines: system design, digital design, ATE test, software development and applications engineering

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering or a related subject
  • Design of deep sub-micron CMOS analog and RF circuits
  • Work on WiFi, BT, NB-IoT or cellular radio standards
  • Knowledge of a range of circuit architectures; for example, LNA, PA, PLL, Mixers, Filters, ADC, DAC, LDO

As a RF test Systems Engineer, you will join our team in Portsmouth to support our activities within the Aerospace sector.

You will be responsible for defining and delivering RF test system solutions derived from detailed equipment specifications. The role involves designing, building, and validating RF test systems (L-band and above), supporting formal project reviews, and working closely with both project management and the RF Test Systems Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Derive detailed RF test system requirements from equipment specifications
  • Design RF and microwave test systems (L-band and above)
  • Support system build, integration, and validation activities
  • Produce and maintain test solution documentation
  • Participate in formal design and project reviews
  • Report progress and technical issues to Project Management and the RF Test Systems Team Lead

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in RF test system design (L-band and above)
  • Strong knowledge of microwave theory
  • Hands-on experience with microwave test hardware, including Network Analysers and Spectrum Analysers
  • Experience in system integration and validation
  • Ability to translate technical specifications into robust test solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and delivering RF test systems
  • Strong understanding of engineering documentation and review processes

Desirable Skills:

We are looking for an EMC Test Technician to join our Military and Aerospace EMC team. This is a hands-on role preparing equipment, supporting test engineers, and conducting EMC tests in line with industry standards and internal procedures.

The role offers excellent development opportunities and is ideal for someone with technical aptitude, good attention to detail, and interest in defence and aerospace testing.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and assist with EMC testing of electronic equipment.
  • Operate test equipment under supervision.
  • Accurately record measurements and observations.
  • Prepare and maintain lab setups, equipment, and test environments.
  • Follow internal procedures and contribute to lab housekeeping.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Technical qualification (e.g. BTEC, HNC) in engineering or relevant experience in a testing or lab environment.

To be successful in your application for this role you will require:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance (baseline or SC level).
