What will you be doing? We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward-thinking and self-motivated individual to join our Hardware Engineering team at DTC in Hampshire.

Ideal candidates will have extensive experience in board-level and system-level RF electronics design.

You will be responsible for RF system and hardware designs from initial concept through requirements definition, architecture definition, part selection, detailed design, analysis, qualification testing, manufacturing, and in life support.

Hardware design tasks will include block diagrams, detailed schematics, PCB layout and routing, simulations, and design test.

DTC RF Engineers work on Transmitters, Power Amplifiers, Receivers, LNA, Filters, Software Defined Radios and Down converters.

Successful candidates will require

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Electronics or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience in design and analysis of RF electronics and systems.
  • Proficient in RF fundamentals: impedance matching, Smith charts, passive RLC, filter design, linearity, harmonics, noise figure analysis etc.
  • Proficient in professional simulation tools such as AWR, as well as EDA tools such as PADS.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with lab instruments such as network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators and oscilloscopes.
  • Proven experience of design, simulation, prototyping, and testing of baseband, IF, and RF circuits
  • Expertise in schematic capture and PCB layout for multilayer RF designs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience In The Following Areas Would Be Highly Advantageous

  • Receivers, Transmitters, Synthesizers, VCOs, low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers, mixers and filters

Job Summary The Engineering Manager for Electrical & RF Calibration leads engineering resources for electrical metrology and RF calibration products at Fluke, managing product delivery and lifecycle from concept through deployment to ensure quality, performance, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

Overseeing a multidisciplinary team of hardware, firmware, and software engineers mainly in Norwich, UK, this role also draws on global Fluke engineering resources as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end product delivery and lifecycle management for electrical and RF calibration products, from initial concept through sustaining engineering.

Key Qualifications

  • Education: BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Leadership: 10+ years of experience in product development, with proven experience leading multidisciplinary hardware and software teams.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong background in RF circuit design and measurement (e.g., signal generators, power meters, or spectrum analyzers).

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Radio Spectrum Lead, based within the UK Technical Maritime Services (UKTMS) Directorate which has responsibility for developing, negotiating, and maintaining UK objectives and regulations relating to a wide range of safety and environment issues associated with ships and vessels of all sizes (from small pleasure vessels to the largest internationally trading ships). There is regular engagement with operational colleagues across the MCA, other Government Departments and other national Maritime Administrations, as well as industry stakeholders.

This role is in the Radio Team, which deals with the use and protection of radio spectrum; development and availability of technical standards for bridge navigation and radio communications equipment; and their appropriate application to installations on UK vessels. The work of the unit is primarily driven by ship requirements of; the Convention on Safety of Life at Sea 1974 (SOLAS), Ch IV Radiocommunications and the ITU Convention (International Telecommunications Convention) and regional and national implementations.

Job description

As the Radio Spectrum Lead, you will take a proactive lead in managing and developing UK objectives, regulations and guidance for the specific subject areas as directed, in support of UK government objectives for a safe and commercially successful UK fleet, supported by your own technical knowledge and the expertise of colleagues.

You will provide a focal point for your area of responsibility for liaison with stakeholders (internal and external) to ensure the MCA has an informed and balanced approach that meets the Government’s obligations, industry needs, and public expectations.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:

  • Representing the MCA for the development and management of radio spectrum, advocating for the protection of maritime frequencies, at internal and external meetings.
  • Coordinating the dissemination and input from UK stakeholders and government organisations that may affect access to maritime radio spectrum and related services.
  • Overseeing the assessment of applications for non-operational, coast station, licences and jamming exercises.
  • Representing the MCA, and/or the UK, at internal, external and international meetings and working groups, including drafting and presentation of substantive papers.
  • Contributing to, and where appropriate lead, the negotiation, development, implementation and management of objectives and regulation for the UK merchant ship regulatory framework.
  • Providing a focal point role for industry and colleagues, maintaining a positive and proactive role with internal and external stakeholders .
  • Drafting instructions for Government lawyers on UK objectives and coordinate impact assessments, including development of M-Notices, Safety Bulletins, Instructions to Surveyors and Advice Notes.
  • Maintaining awareness of national and international political and policy context of radio spectrum. Handle technical and regulatory questions, providing advice to senior managers, government departments and Ministers.

Working hours, office attendance and travel requirements

Full time roles consist of 37 hours per week.

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 30 hours per week.

This role is suitable for hybrid working, which is a non-contractual arrangement where a combination of workplace and home-based working can be accommodated subject to business requirements.

The expectation at present is a minimum of 60% of your working time a month will be spent at either your designated workplace (one of the locations cited in the advert) or, when required for business reasons, in another office/work location/visiting stakeholders. Your designated workplace will be your contractual place of work. There may be occasions where you are required to attend above the minimum expectation.

This position within our MEP engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious engineer who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in a dynamic high-performance team.

The Principal Electrical Engineer/EMC Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all lineside and tunnel systems (including power, signalling, communications, mechanical and electrical (M&E) assets) are designed, installed and tested to meet the stringent EMC requirements of a high-speed railway. Your expertise will be vital in preventing electromagnetic interference (EMI) between safety-critical systems, ensuring the railway operates safely and reliably.

  • This role requires considerable professional experience and expertise in order to manage complex or non-standard design solutions.
  • Have a good understanding of CSM/CDM regulations and requirements.
  • Good communication and presentation skills for external presentations to clients.
  • Maintaining good relationships with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company.
  • Maintaining good relationships with engineers from other internal discipline teams to promote good inter-discipline working relationships and a “One Team” ethos.

Missions/Main Duties

The Principal Electrical Engineer/EMC Specialist’s main duties will be to manage the complex EMC interfaces for a high-speed rail environment and to be responsible for:

  • Ensuring projects are completed to meet all client’s requirements and applicable standards and to an agreed budget and programme.
  • Plan the project works and provide forward view resource forecasting to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resource to the projects.
  • Identify changes to the projects client requirements and raise the changes with the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Provide monthly cost to complete forecasts to the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Act as the technical lead for all EMC matters related to lineside and tunnel systems.
  • Develop, maintain and manage EMC Management Plans for specific assets, focusing on the unique challenges of confined tunnel spaces and extensive lineside routes.
  • Proactively identify and manage complex EMC interfaces between railway systems.
  • Lead and contribute to EMC-related hazard identification (HAZID) and risk assessments. Ensure all EMC risks are captured in the project Hazard Log and managed to an ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) level.
  • Investigate and lead the resolution of any EMC issues, failures or non-conformances identified during construction, testing, or commissioning.
  • Liaise directly with design and build contractors, system suppliers, internal departments (such as Power, Signalling and Civils) and external bodies to ensure a unified and compliant approach to EMC.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and interface management with civil, structural, architectural, and rail systems engineering teams.
  • Support the implementation of sustainability and energy efficiency measures.
  • Monitor project progress and technical issues; prepare progress, quality and safety documentation as required.
  • Support value engineering, risk assessments and technical query resolution.

Profile/Skills

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in EMC matters with a strong focus on rail/high-speed rail or transportation sectors.
  • Extensive, proven experience as an EMC engineer or specialist within a complex, large-scale infrastructure project.
  • Deep technical knowledge of railway EMC and the governing standards, particularly the EN 50121 series (Railway applications – Electromagnetic compatibility).
  • Experience of the production and review of the following documents:-
    • EMC Strategy
    • EMC Control Plan
    • EMC Management Plan
  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English.
  • Flexibility in working hours will be required to meet the demands of the role.
  • Ability to travel to client sites and other SYSTRA offices will be required.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards.
  • Detailed knowledge of Earthing and Bonding with a strong focus on rail/high-speed rail
  • Able to undertake overseas assignments where required.
  • Experience in working with offshore production centres.
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer.

To be successful in your application for this role you will require:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain UK security clearance (SC level).
  • Availability to work Monday to Thursday: 08:30–17:00, and Friday: 08:30–15:45 (37.5 hours per week).
  • Full UK driving licence.
